Rio Nowlin

Rio joined the Healthy Within Team in April of 2025. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience at UC San Diego and graduates June 2025. She is aspiring to specialize in the fields of Clinical Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.

Rio is primarily interested in treatment modalities that do not require medication or invasive procedures to reduce symptoms. Therefore, she is fascinated by the brain’s capacity to heal and transform itself through neuroplasticity and neurofeedback training. Rio is especially interested in the applications of cognitive neuroscience on the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders.

Rio has a background in psychology and cognitive science, as well as experience with social sciences and art studies. At UC San Diego, she has minors in African American Studies and Film Studies. Her past projects include, but are not limited to, topics on the prison industrial complex and the development of music in underserved communities.

Through her studies, Rio has learned how, both, the world shapes our minds and how our minds shape our world. She aims to understand how the mechanics of our mind can be used in our favor.

In her free time, Rio likes to watch movies and listen to her favorite band, Zero 7. She also enjoys making film edits, thrift shopping, and going for long walks with no destination.
