Divya Kakaiya, Ph.D., CEDS
CEO, Program Founder, Clinical Director, Neurofeedback Provider (PSY #14052)
Dr. Kakaiya has been practicing Psychotherapy since 1985 and is a true visionary in her field of Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback. She is a seasoned expert in the field of brain conditions and neurofeedback, and has presented at numerous professional and lay conferences over the last 18 years. She specializes with cross cultural issues, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), trauma, women’s issues, substance abuse, utilizing Neurofeedback as one of her primary treatment modalities. She has also published extensively on issues related to family dynamics, treating adolescents with eating disorders and issues related to South Asian Women. Additionally, she was on editorial board of numerous eating disorder journals, and journals of cultural diversity. She has also been on the conference committees for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) and the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) as well as a member of the International Society for Neurofeedback & Research (ISNR) and the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). She is also a member of EEG info.
Dr. Kakaiya conducts Neurotherapy, individual, family and couples therapy for the program. Her most passionate areas of interest include Neurofeedback, brain health, PTSD and TBI treatment for our returning military, and eating disorder prevention. She founded the Healthy Within Foundation in 2002 with the hopes of being able to conduct more aggressive prevention programs particularly in middle schools. She is a very dynamic, warm, real, and engaging therapist who has brought about major changes in the ways family members relate with one another.
Dr. Kakaiya was personally introduced to Neurofeedback through a family member and having experienced the benefits herself she is an avid proponent of Neurofeedback. As a cancer survivor herself, Dr. Kakaiya has used Neurofeedback for many cancer patients for anxiety, depression and the memory loss that comes with the introduction of Chemotherapy.

Patty Schroeder Psy.D
Reg. Psychological Assistant to Dr. Kakaiya (PSY #14052), Program Therapist & Teen Coach (PSB #35069)
Dr. Patty Schroeder is an individual and group therapist at Healthy Within. Her passion for helping women recover from eating disorders and poor body image led her to pursue a career in psychology. She earned her Psy.D. degree in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University in 2009 and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
At Healthy Within Clinic, Dr. Schroeder conducts individual psychotherapy and group therapy. Her warm, kind, compassionate demeanor makes her a very approachable therapist. Her personal experiences in adjusting to life after a spinal cord injury make her a gifted, understanding, intuitive clinician. Her optimistic view on the world as she empowers others to seize the “moment” and break through the barriers we all experience are some of Dr. Schroeder’s strongest assets. Dr. Schroeder has substantial clinical experience with adolescents. A treatment modality Dr. Schroeder resonates well with is working from a place of wellness and strength using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Schroeder is also trained in the Teen Wisdom Coaching Model for Teen girls and is an awesome Coach for Wellness with teens. She has an engaging, playful demeanor which makes her coaching style very approachable and she achieves great results with the teens she works with.
Kate Pavlak, M.A., LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Neurofeedback Practitioner, Girl's Prevention Specialist, Family-Based Treatment Coach, Eating Disorder Prevention Specialist (MFC #54010)
Kate is passionate about helping others achieve wholeness in all areas of their lives. Her warm and cheerful energy help make her someone her clients feel safe with. Kate believes in treating each client as a unique individual and creates a strong, nurturing relationship with all of the children and families she works with.
Kate received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, San Diego and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has been with Healthy Within since 2010. Her areas of specialty included young children, OCD/Anxiety issues, Dialectical Behavioral Treatment, assertiveness training, and prevention.
Kate is a trained Neurofeedback practitioner at Healthy Within, providing weekly neurofeedback training (NFB) sessions to children, teens, and adults, utilizing the BrainPaint® system. Through her experiences with clients, Kate has witnessed many amazing and permanent changes occur for her clients including improved sleeping patterns, diminishment of nightmares, decreases in depression and anxiety, improvement of relationships and communication with family members, improved concentration/motivation/creativity, and so much more. As a recipient of NFB herself, Kate has experienced the amazing and lasting effects.
Edgar Sierra, M.A. MFTi
Marriage Family Therapy Intern, Program Therapist, Neurofeedback Practitioner
& Boy's Prevention Specialist (IMF #65233)
Edgar received his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the APA accredited California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) Alliant International University in 2010, Edgar was the sole recipient of the Outstanding Student of the Year Award. In 2004 he graduated with a dual Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Women’s Studies and Psychology from California State University San Marcos. Edgar also has 15 years experience working in the mental health field. He is skilled at working with children, adolescents and their families. He also has experience working with the juvenile justice system, the county health and human services system, and local school systems. Edgar has a particular interest and experience with the children in the autism spectrum. He specifically enjoys working with adolescents during the crucial development stage and life stress that come during this phase. Edgar’s areas of specialty are anxiety, mood dys-regulation, impulse control, depression, trauma treatment, adolescent behavior issues, and Autism. Edgar is a bilingual (Spanish/English) bicultural, postmodern, systemic therapist.
Edgar became a therapist to help people navigate their complex worlds in order to live a healthier, happier life. His approach to treatment is to center the individual as the expert of his or her life experience. He believes that the experience of each individual is unique to his or her culture, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, and sexual orientation. For this reason he respects each individual and uses a non-blaming, holistic approach. Edgar is married, he is the father of one son, and he is an outdoor enthusiast with many hobbies including machinery mechanics, hiking and camping.
As the co-owner of the program, Mr. Kakaiya brings with him a strong business background and a keen awareness of the essential needs of a brain based treatment program. He is responsible for day to day operations management and is the director of Business Development. Mr. Kakaiya’s specialty is marketing and Business Coaching. He is an active member of the Healthy Within team and as the father of a young adult woman and a very active, compassionate teen son. Having been at eating disorder conferences for the last 17 years, he is acutely aware of the tyranny of the body obsessed society we live in. Additionally, he has been moulded by his daughter who is a Gender and Women’s studies major and has taught him the new brand of feminism! He trains regularly with the Interns, teaches them Neurofeedback, and is actively engaged in promoting the message of health within to all he comes in contact with. He is a former member of Dads and Daughters Organization and believes in empowering women and girls in achieving their highest potential. He is actively involved in his daughter’s life and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with her in July of 2005. His current passion is taking his son to surf at all the California beaches! Yogesh is a true lover of nature and hikes the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim a couple times a year. As an avid singer he brings music to the Kakaiya household and has personally felt the incredible benefits of Neurofeedback.
Rini LaBerge recently joined Healthy Within, Inc. in the capacity of Administrator and Business Development Manager. She adds to the Healthy Within team 30+ years of Administrative Management, Marketing, Events Planning and Business Development skills. Rini’s broad business exposure and career experience allows her to view and analyze business practices and strategies from many perspectives. Rini is creative and fearless in her pursuit of accomplishing business goals. She has strong personnel management skills and demonstrated ability to deal with difficult and/or sensitive personnel and business relationships matters in a fair, confidential and objective manner. With an enthusiastic and genuinely friendly attitude, Rini radiates a sincere passion for delivering value and benefits to her clients.
In recent years, Rini has successfully mentored and lead several business executives to achieve significant business goals. She is a professional who has the ability to quickly evaluate business patterns and services to build an efficient and effective infrastructure to support the expansion of their growing business.
On a personal level, she is married and has two adult sons and five beautiful grandchildren.
